Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business

About WBSI

People, process, technology. WBSI ties it all together.

Web Business Solutions, Inc. is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business headquartered in Fredericksburg, Virginia, supporting federal and Department of War/Department of Defense customers since 2003.

Company overview

Who we are

WBSI provides training and education, wargaming, command and control systems support, cybersecurity and information assurance, mission assurance, systems engineering, software and database development, and weapons maintenance services to government customers, with the U.S. Marine Corps and Department of the Navy at the center of our work.

From the beginning, WBSI embraced a simple philosophy: to enjoy long-term success, we had to attract and retain highly qualified, seasoned professionals. By taking care of our employees, our employees take excellent care of our customers. That philosophy has fueled more than two decades of steady growth and long-term customer relationships.

That is the reputation we work to earn on every contract, at every location, for every customer.

Mission & vision

Why we exist

Mission

Deliver quality, value-driven training, technical, and operational support that makes our government customers succeed.

Vision

Be the small business that federal and defense customers trust with their hardest training and technical problems, and the company the best people in the field want to work for.

Core values

How we operate

Take care of our people

We take care of our employees, and our employees take care of our customers. It is the founding rule of the company, backed by compensation, benefits, and bonus programs designed to attract and keep the best.

Deliver quality, not promises

Our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system turns good intentions into documented, repeatable processes, from program management to risk management.

Know the mission

Most of our workforce served in uniform. We understand the customers we support because, in most cases, we have stood where they stand.

Stay small on purpose

Small-business agility is a feature, not a phase. Customers deal directly with decision-makers, and problems get solved in days, not quarters.

“Take care of your Marines and they will take care of you. As I transitioned into the civilian world, I modified that Corps principle into one of WBSI's core values: we take care of our employees, and our employees take care of our customers. It is such a simple statement, but one I truly take to heart and back up with actions.”

Lance Deffenbaugh founded WBSI in 2003 after 23 years in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a data processing and communications officer and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His Marine Corps career included testing and implementing five Simple Mail Transfer Protocol gateways providing worldwide email for more than 25,000 users, leading the team that planned, engineered, and implemented Parris Island's first local area network, and co-authoring “Copernicus,” the Navy–Marine Corps command and control vision for the 21st century signed by the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Chief of Naval Operations.

Before founding WBSI, he served as Lead Information Systems Engineer at MITRE, supporting Headquarters Marine Corps C4 on the Defense Message System, including a $10 million congressional supplement request that consolidated 20 DMS sites to four centralized locations and saved the Marine Corps millions of dollars, and as Senior Vice President of the DoD Division at AnviCom, where he won more than $20 million in new contracts and hired over 100 employees.

When he started WBSI, he set out to separate the company from thousands of others by offering the best compensation packages, benefits, and working environment possible: implementing bonus programs, listening to employee ideas, acting on their suggestions, and rewarding them. More than two decades later, WBSI's employee retention and customer past performance reflect that commitment.

Veteran-owned

SDVOSB is who we are, not just how we're classified

As a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, WBSI gives contracting officers set-aside and sole-source pathways and helps prime contractors meet subcontracting goals. But the designation runs deeper than acquisition strategy: the company was founded by a service-disabled veteran, is certified under the Virginia Values Veterans (V3) program, and is built largely of former military professionals who bring their service experience to every customer engagement.

Quality management

ISO 9001:2015 certified

WBSI's quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015. Earning the certification required an extensive independent evaluation of our internal processes: quality management, human resources, finance, program management, risk management, and business development. We pursued it proactively, and we hold ourselves to its standards on every contract.
